Check out this awesome panel featuring some of the minds behind the the God of War franchise from Sony Santa Monica Studio. The video features highlights from the PAX panel with several topics that cover God of War: Ascension, as well as a look back at God of War’s origins.
The panel were asked why they chose to go back in time and create a prequel after God of War III. Todd Papy (Director, God of War: Ascension) condensed his team’s vision for the game into one word, ‘Humanity’. Papy continued to explain that he wanted to show the ‘human side of Kratos’ and felt that it’s something players didn’t really see in God of War II and God of War III.
Some of the earliest art and thoughts behind the God of War IP and the development of Kratos were also shown and discussed. The image above is the very first iteration of Kratos and it is clear from the video that he went through quite a rigorous development process to establish him as the war-torn warrior we know today.
If you’re at all interested in the origins and development of this franchise, take a look at the video, it’s packed full of interesting material. Also, “I am the GOD OF GOLF!”
God of War: Ascension, developed by Sony Santa Monica Studio, will be released on March 12th, exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
