During the 25th Anniversary party of the Final Fantasy franchise, Square Enix showed off what was to be the next and final chapter of the Final Fantasy XIII series.

Lightning Returns:  Final Fantasy XIII was revealed by Square Enix to be a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII-2 and also the first Final Fantasy of it’s kind to be a trilogy.

“The game system is much more active, and the world features much more interactive environments as before,” Kitase said. “Players can control Lighting as they see fit.”

The game follows the female protagonist Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII, and Final Fantasy XIII-2 and players will be able to create exhaustive customization of Lightning according to the developers in a per-recorded presentation shown at PAX.
