At PAX Prime 2012 the action never stops, except when it is late and it is time to sleep, then the action is simply on a pause screen. Yesterday, during their PAX Prime panel, Sony Santa Monica unveiled the upcoming villains for God of War: Ascension, called “the Furies.” The Furies, like most major characters in the God of War games, come ripped right out of mythology, but of course, with some artistic deviations. These goddesses will come jam-packed with weird spider legs that do lots of stabbing and picking dudes up and look to be quite angry — at least the one shown in the trailer below does — there are two others who have yet to be unveiled.
As for their role in the life and times of Kratos, Ascension will be a prequel to the God of War trilogy, with Kratos still mortal. The plot will take place just a short while after his family’s death, and the Furies are upset with Kratos when he denies his debt to Ares, the original God of War. This is your set up for Kratos to go hacking and slashing across beautiful backdrops and making everyone pay a price for his woes, and hopefully giving some new backstory scattered throughout. Personally, I’m awaiting Kratos calling them “furries” to truly raise their ire, but we’ll have to wait to see if that happens.
God of War: Ascension is scheduled to be released on March 13th in the US for the Sony PlayStation 3.
