PlayStation adding PayPal as a method of payment for purchases for some countries
Posted on October 24, 2012 AT 07:53am
GamerAnx is reporting that Sony has begun rolling out a new option for payment for their PlayStation Network users that should make a lot of people pretty happy and a lot more secure. PayPal has been added for most countries across their network as a method of payment. At the time of this writing, the United States has not been added as a country, but one could imagine that it’s only a matter of time before it’s added as well. Here is a list of the countries that currently have PayPal for use on the PlayStation Network along with instructions on how to add it as a method of payment: http://en.support.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2949/kw/paypal
Most gamers recall that the PlayStation Store was hacked a couple years back with hackers obtaining credit card information from multiple users. This hacking showed that Sony had some security loopholes to say the least. But one would believe that with the addition of PayPal, this will add a new level of security that can prevent that information from being displayed to a potential hacker as PayPal does not release credit card information to merchants.
