Only during E3 did Quantum Conundrum come into my radar. Square Enix has ramped things up with a show based around the dimension bending features of the game. If the insanity in the following video which Squeenix and iam8bit last Thursday is indicative of what to expect from the game itself… Well, I’ll let the video speak for itself.
Witness now, episode one of The Super Dimensional Quantum Learning’s Problems and Solutions Gametime Spectacular!!
To be perfectly honest: I’m torn by this video. It’s got some genuine weirdness, but also seems to be trying a bit too hard. The crazy name for both the show and the experiments reek of Japanese TV Game Show Weirdness, though at the same time strikes me as goofy for the sake of being goofy, and it comes off as insincere. [Yes, insincere goofiness. It exists. Look at most modern sitcoms, and you'll quickly understand what I mean.] I hope the future videos come a little closer to what the game is really about, instead of being this ‘almost bad enough to be a show on Adult Swim’ oddity that we’re currently seeing.
Anyhow, I love the idea of the different dimensions creating different physics situations. I’m guessing that each episode will introduce another dimension. From what I’ve seen so far, there’s the FLUFFY dimension, as well as ANTI-GRAVITY and HEAVY dimensions. I must admit that I’ve gotten more than a touch of a Portal vibe from what I’ve seen of this game so far. I’m hoping when I get my grubby little paws on the game proper that it’ll change my mind.
If you [like myself] missed hearing about Quantum Conundrum when it was first announced, check out the official E3 2012 trailer:
Until next time, you’ll probably find me gettin’ fluffy with it. Unless, of course, I find another old, tired pop culture reference to make, in which case… I’ll be doing that instead.
