People have been doing their best to convince me that rock n’ roll is dead for most of my adult life now. The amount of time that I’ve spent with a guitar in my hand might be equal to the amount of time that I’ve spent with a game controller in my hand, which is saying a lot, so it is safe to say that I do not see rock n’ roll as dead. Seeing companies like Harmonix continually pushing out content for their Rock Band games shows the level of commitment and passion that they have for music, and I’m happy to see that. Next week they shall march forward yet again, releasing three new singles into the Rock Band store, joining the over 3,500 songs already up there.

The three tracks joining the ranks of the world of Rock Band are an eclectic mix, to say the least. The most popular one will without a doubt be the B-52’s classic party anthem of “Love Shack,” a song which has carved its way into music history, and now into Rock Band. Also available will be “Not Again” by the aging nu metalists Staind and rounding out the mix will be Young the Giant’s indie rock track “My Body.”

These new tracks will hit the Xbox 360, Wii and Playstation 3 on July 17th here in the states, July 18th in Europe. Each track will sell for $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points, 200 Wii points), with “Love Shack” eligible for a $0.99 (80 Microsoft Points, 100 Wii Points) Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade.
