It’s Time For The Citizens To Save The Heroes: Save City of Heroes!

Last friday, NCsoft announced that in November, they will be shutting down Paragon Studios, creators of City of Heroes and City of Villains. That wasn’t the worst news, though: When the studio closes, Paragon City will be going away with it.

Those who still play and support the game feel this is a major injustice. And, being citizens of Paragon City means no injustice shall stand! The rally has begun to attempt to save the city.

From their original press release:

To its community, City of Heroes is more than just a game, it is a vibrant, welcoming community.  City of Heroes was the first online role-playing game for many gamers, and introduced them to the wonders of flying through the skies and battling epic menaces with friends.  City of Heroes has brought together families, offered comfort during troubling times, and inspired charities that have raised nearly $30,000 for children, members of the armed forces, and to fight hunger.

The City of Heroes community quickly rallied and formed a campaign to save the game from virtual extinction.  “We’ve been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years.  It’s time to do it one more time,” said Tony Vasquez administrator of the Titan Network, an alliance of City of Heroes fan sites (http://paragonwiki.com), and one of the organizers of the Save Paragon City! campaign.

A number of projects and events have been started to convince NCsoft keep the gates of Paragon City open, including an online petition that currently has over 15,000 signatures [including my own]. ePetitions don’t always work, but in cases like this, it can indeed make a difference. There is also a letter writing campaign as well.

Tomorrow [today, for some of you reading this], there is a player-organized ‘Unity Rally’ and Paragon Appreciation costume contest in which players are going to dress up as their favorite Paragon Studios Staff member [more info here]. The event is scheduled to start at 5 EDT [2 PDT] on the Virtue server. If you’d like to attend, take your hero to Atlas Park at that time!

I hope that we don’t see countless heroes fall to what is merely chalked up to as a ‘focus change’.

Bryan Todd [aka DieselBT] -- This is where I'm supposed to say something clever about myself. Let's pretend I did, and it conveniently mentions all of my top interests, such as anime, video games, crazy gadgets, electronic music, voice acting, sound editing, and countless other ridiculously fascinating topics. I also like to write stuff about things, which is why I'm here.

...That, and I like your shirt.
