During the first day of San Diego Comic Con, IDW Publishing held a joint panel with Hasbro to promote the upcoming content that will stem from their partnership. There were a lot of announcement that stemmed from this panel from multiple properties, including Transformers, G.I. Joe, Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, and even a special surprise announcement!
First off was G.I. Joe, with some great announcements. The Joe ongoing will feature some time in an underground Cobra facility, as well a major six-part crossover featuring issues of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, respectively. Those issues will kick off in October, working up to Snake Eyes #18, and Storm Shadow #18. Another announcement was about the Cobra series, which will feature a new team for the mighty organization. There were also a few more cryptic posts, mentioning some new characters in the upcoming series “Oktober”, as well as Danger Girl teaming up with the Joes in another announcement.
After those, IDW was nowhere near done, moving on to one of their flagship brands, Transformers. The first bit was about Dinobot month, which kicks off in August. Also announced were the return of Grimlock in More Than Meets The Eye, a Robots In Disguise annual, Dinobots returning to that series, Grimlock returning to Nebulon in the Regeneration One book, an Transformers: Prime mini-series to lead into Season Three of the television series entitled “Rage Of The Dinobots” and a Fall Of Cybertron prequel comic to lead into the upcoming game for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 from High Moon Studios.
D&D and Magic also got some love, with the announcement of the “Forgotten Realms” series for D&D, which will be a five issue limited, as well as a cryptic, vague announcement for 2013. Magic announced the “Spell Thief” series as well for October, with that series being a four issue limited as well.
The final announcement was about the newest IDW property, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, which sent fans wild. There was very little else announced related to the book, but fans should be looking forward to it.
A great way to begin Comic-Con, as it was one of the first panels of Day One. IDW has some great things coming in the near future.
