SDCC: Marvel’s House Of Ideas Panel
Posted on July 16, 2012 AT 07:10pm
Marvel’s House Of Ideas is always a popular panel during San Diego Comic Con, and this time was no different. Featuring the greatest in announcements of new technology for the comic world, Marvel is always a step ahead in the industry.
Marvel has pushed heavily in recent times for a movement to the digital age of comics, especially with their new initiative, ReEvolution. This initiative will combine print and digital, using certain codes to give digital copies of books to those who buy the print versions. Also mentioned was their subscription program, a few interesting YouTube channels and podcasts, including the stop-motion “Marvel Superheroes: What The–?” and the “Mighty Marvel Podcast”.
Also touched on were Marvel’s AR, which has scannable codes at certain points in specified issues, giving interesting information and recaps without interrupting the comic itself, and Marvel’s “Infinite” line of comics, which are digital-first, instead of scanning issues from print copies. Fans (this author included) were asked to come on stage and read an issue of the Infinite series, focusing on Cyclops. This format was very impressive, with a cross between motion comics and print styles, making for a very smooth and beautiful read.
Also be sure to check Marvel’s website for the “Marvel Advisors” program, which allows fans to get first looks at content by being signed up.
Marvel has brought a new edge to the technology used in comics, and so far, it looks very good, so be sure to check out some of the available programs and apps now, as well as those coming in the future.
