SDCC: Marvel’s Next Big Thing

By

Marvel’s Next Big Thing panel is always one of the more popular panels at San Diego Comic Con, and this year, they did not fail to disappoint. Some great announcements were made by some of the biggest names in Marvel, and even a newcomer to the Marvel Universe.

The first big piece of news was the announcement of a new ongoing series for Gambit, thief extraordinaire! Coming this August, Gambit #1 will launch, and this exciting series is sure to make fans very happy. Another major character getting a new ongoing series is Hawkeye, who was a major part of the Avengers film, and the team as a whole. Ms. Marvel also makes her move up in the very near future, taking on the role of Captain Marvel, which sees Carol Danvers in a new suit, with a new style, and the ability to be awesome. X-Factor will also be getting a big push, with the “Breaking Points” arc running through issues #241-#245.

With the birth of a few new titles, others will be ending their runs in the Marvel Universe, or at least changing in some way. New Mutants will be ending, and Hulk, by Jeff Parker will be transitioning into a new book titled Red She-Hulk. Daniel Way will also be leaving Deadpool after issue #63, with Way moving to another project and the series moving on with a new creative team.

Joe Keatinge, who gained his fame with the Image Comics series Glory, was announced as the new writer in the Marvel team, getting the duties on the new mini-series Thanos: Son Of Titan. Also spoken about was the series First X-Men, which will feature Logan before the original formation of the iconic team, and also introduce some new mutants along the way.

Russ Pirozek, known as "Noobcrawler" to some, is a gamer and comic book fan who sometimes gets around to writing for DigitalNoob.com. He's also awesome. If someone looked up "awesome" in the dictionary, his picture wouldn't be there, but that's because he's too busy being awesome to pose for a photo.
