Skyrim Developers Took Cues from Minecraft for Upcoming Hearthfire DLC

Skyrim Hearthfire

If you are already excited about the new Skyrim DLC, Hearthfire, chances are that you’ve read about some of the really cool new features, such as crafting your own homes and adoption. The Skyrim developers revealed in their latest dev diary entry that the idea to add building into Skyrim came from the incredibly popular game/phenomenon Minecraft. Minecraft is the game created by Mojang that plants you in the middle of an undeveloped world full of animals, plants, creepers, zombies and the earth underneath your feet and leaves what you do with this world completely up to you.

Skyrim will apparently be taking some cues from Minecraft with the upcoming DLC, and you won’t have to speculate as to the connection, because they spell it out for the world to see.

Meanwhile Nesmith, a fan of the popular game Minecraft, wanted players to have more ways to create content in the game. “Being a fan of [Minecraft], I asked, ‘Why can’t I build things in our game?’”

Two of the most insanely addictive games of the past year or so are both Minecraft and Skyrim, so Skyrim integrating even a few ideas from Minecraft can only make gamers more addicted and more happy, unless of course you own the game for PS3 and are wondering if you’ll ever see this.

Skyrim: Hearthfire will be available on September 4th for the Xbox 360 for 400 Microsoft Points ($5 USD). No other platforms have been announced yet, but expect the same sort of timeframe for it as we saw with Dawnguard.
