The trailers, gameplay videos and reveals are flooding in from gamescom and one of the biggest surprises so far is the unveiling of a new IP from Sony’s Japanese Studio called ‘Puppeteer’. The trailer depicts a beautifully rendered, side-scrolling world where players will be in control of a young boy called Kutaro, who has been transformed into a puppet by the evil Moon Bear King; who later lops off the poor boy’s head. However, Kutaro discovers a special pair of scissors that will take him on an adventure to reclaim his head and find a way home.
The game looks stunning, showcasing a vast array of colors and colorful characters too. It looks as if you’re playing on a stage, experiencing a live theater performance as it unfolds, specifically a kind of pantomime. This trailer really commands attention from the second it begins, everything from the eery music and fairytale sound effects, to the pantomime voice acting and beautiful level design. This game can’t come soon enough, it is definitely one to watch and the surprise of gamescom so far.
Puppeteer is a brand new franchise developed exclusively for PlayStation 3 by SCE JAPAN Studio. A release date has yet to be announced.
