There is something to be said for the God of War games, from how stylized the gameplay and cutscenes are to how downright fun they are to play. That being said, we live in times where game developers are expected to provide more than a solid single player experience with some possible DLC down the road. Publishers are looking for the games that they publish to have a reason for gamers to hold onto them and not dash to their nearest Gamestop when they have completed the game to trade it in for a newer release. Basically, everyone wants their game to be the next Call of Duty and make double the money over the lifetime of the game’s release through DLC and keeping gamers playing it until the next installment.
God of War will be the latest series to have multiplayer tacked on to the release to entice players to keep playing once the single player mode has been completed. God of War: Ascension is the next game in the series, and by the looks of it, will have multiplayer attached to it. The God of War games have been known to have a rather unique hack-n-slash style of gameplay with QTE events tossed in for good measure, making it a confusing game to add multiplayer onto. That being said, many said that the Assassin’s Creed games would never work in the multiplayer department, yet the multiplayer in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations was some of the best of the year and is incredibly fun to play. So check out this trailer that Sony released for the upcoming God of War: Ascension multiplayer and collect your jaw off of the floor.
Sony also announced that there will be a beta of the multiplayer soon, but expect it to be available either first or exclusively to Playstation Plus subscribers.
God of War: Ascension is due to be released on March 12th, 2013 for the Sony Playstation 3.
