This year is the 20th anniversary of Spawn, the legendary comic book franchise by comic book icon Todd McFarlane. To celebrate, Todd McFarlane is having a bit of fun, paying homage to the covers of some of the best books in comics, such as Savage Dragon, The Walking Dead, Youngblood, as well as the cover of Spawn #221, which pays homage to the issue of Amazing Fantasy that introduces Spider-Man.

The news of Spawn #221 selling out is no surprise, as fans have really embraced the new, darker direction of Jim Downing, the current Spawn. With McFarlane’s return to the writing and cover credits, issues of Spawn have flown off the shelves, with issue #221 selling out at the distributor level. No news on a second printing as of yet, but it’s very likely there will be.

If the issue continues to sell well, there may be news of a second printing by August 8th, the release date of Spawn #222. Another issue sells out for Image Comics, continuing a great year for the brand and the titles under their umbrella.
