Stealth is Back in Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Posted on September 1, 2012 AT 06:51pm
One of my main complaints after seeing SplinterCell: Blacklist’s release at E3 this year was the continued trend the series was following away from its stealthy roots, thankfully this new video showed that all is not run’n’gun at the house of Ubisoft. This new video being shown off by the Splinter Cell Community Developer is the exact same level we saw earlier this year at E3 except this time we see what would happen if we wanted to play Blacklist like a true Splinter Cell operative. Stealth and avoiding direct confrontation is the name of the game in this video and I’m quite happy to see it is possible to play the game without having Sam firing a single shot.
Now does this mean that I no longer have any complaints about the game? Of course not, the fact that you can still play this as a run and gun shooter rankles my soul in ways that would make other men run to the nearest church they could find and pray for salvation. However, that doesn’t mean I can fault them for trying to broaden their audience. As long as Blacklist doesn’t try and incentivise or punish you for playing it in one way or another, I can live with it as it is.
