Super Comboman Kickstarter: Combos, Fanny Packs, Awesomeness
Posted on November 6, 2012 AT 06:20pm
Beat-em up games never go out of style. Look at Double Dragon Neon, for example: A classic brawler with a new coat of paint. Super Comboman promises to blend the best of beat-em ups and fighting games into a unique platforming experience. The game is being developed by Interabang Entertainment for multiple platforms: iOS, Android, Ouya, PC, Mac, Linux, and perhaps even Wii U.
Currently, it has slightly over $11,000 toward it’s nearly $15,000 goal with only seven days to go. They’ve garnered the support of both IGN and Gamespot, so it’s likely that they’ll meet their goal. Of course, it certainly wouldn’t hurt if you threw a few dollars at them!
A little about the game, from the press release:
Super Comboman is a side-scrolling action platformer with a simple yet deceptively deep fighting system. True to its name, Super Comboman revolves around performing combo attacks in a variety of creative ways. Combos are not only used to defeat enemies—they’re also used in conjunction with the game’s physics engine to solve environmental puzzles. Gamers will enjoy bashing foes through destructible environments with ease. Fighting game fans will love juggling enemies in the air and bouncing them off walls for lengthy, impressive combo strings.
In Super Comboman, main character Struggles, a comic addict with three-pronged mullet, takes on a variety of odd jobs to feed his insatiable comic habit and take care of his little brrother. Unfortunately for Struggles, his obsession with comic hero, Super Comboman, makes him imagine himself as a crusader of justice and everything in his path a punching bag for combos. Of course for gamers, that means lots of fun. Players control Struggles, using his fists, feet, and fanny pack to smash through hordes of aggressive coworkers on their way to the end-level boss—appropriately, Struggles’s actual boss at work.
Their Kickstarter video:
The game has actually been in development since January 2011, when the entire Interabang crew decided to leave behind their ‘old lives’ and move to San Francisco. The reason? To participate in the Gamespy Indie Open House, which saw them coming out on top and getting their own studio space for the company. Since then, they’ve been grinding away to make Super Comboman something amazing, and it looks like they’re succeeding.
Check out their Kickstarter page to learn more not just about the game, but what goodies they’re offering for your support! They’ve got fanny packs, stickers, art books, t-shirts, exclusive Mad Catz gear, game cameos, and more!
