Super Mario Wacky Worlds Beta Hits eBay
Posted on July 30, 2012 AT 05:03pm
We all know what a great game Super Mario World is. The launch title for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, it helped cement the technical prowess of the console, and while it tends to be outshined by it’s predecessor, Super Mario Bros. 3, the game has the lasting legacy of introducing Mario’s pal Yoshi to the mix.
Soon after, a dark time for Nintendo came; while NEC and SEGA were releasing CD adaptors for their consoles, Nintendo dallied with the concept. In the early 1990′s, Nintendo dallied with Phillips and Sony, each considering releasing a CD adapter for the console (the “Nintendo PlayStation” was in the works). The results of this venture were two-fold, and both bad for Nintendo: Phillips released the CD-i, and had the license for Nintendo titles on the console, and Sony had a taste of video gaming, soon releasing the Sony PlayStation.
Lost in the shuffle, after painful sales (and reviews) of Hotel Mario and a pair of Zelda titles for the CD-i was a semi-sequel to Super Mario World. Entitled Super Mario Wacky Worlds, the game was to bring Super Mario World gameplay to real-world settings. Not much is known about the game; footage has hit the internet, but not many can claim they’ve played the title.
smeecrafted1 on eBay appears to be selling a beta online, alongside two wireless controllers for the console. While the controllers are nice, the inclusion of this beta title is the real treat. Is it real? We can only hope so, but with his decent eBay track record (and such an odd thing to fake), it seems possible.
