TERA to Offer Free-to-Play Option

Posted on January 9, 2013 AT 12:23pm

Starting in February, TERA will end its “subscription only” game model and offer a free-to-play choice to gamers. TERA: Rising will not require upfront payments, and will provide an in-game store. If you want more options to customize your gaming experience, there will be an elite status option available for purchase in 30-day increments at $14.99. If you are a past or current subscriber, you will be given permanent “founder” status with some exclusive privileges. New players will be given standard status, without content restrictions nor level cap.

In addition to all this good stuff, there will be new in-game content released. The new wave-based dungeon,  Crucible of Flame dungeon challenges players with high-level battles ending with a new boss fight against the Cyclops. This dungeon will offer rewards based on performance. The new PvP battleground map, Champions’ Skyring, will offer more competitive players a three-versus-three PvP battleground with some of best PvP gear as a reward.

Founder status benefits:

  • Eight character slots
  • Four bank tabs
  • A“Founder” title
  • Exclusive Terminus mount, and more.

Elite status benefits:

  • Extra dungeon rewards
  • 10 bonus quests per day
  • A daily delivery of items and boosts
  • Elite mount
  • In-game store discounts
  • Waived brokerage registration taxes, and more.
Standard benefits:
  • Experience game content
  • Two free characters per server
  • Character growth
  • Holding political office, and other in-game determinations of status and power exactly the same way all players have since the game launched.
  • Choose to buy most items available to elite status players on an a la carte basis from the in-game store or trade broker.

“With TERA: Rising, we created a fresh, action-oriented play style that is centered around allowing players to take control of their actions on the battlefield,” said Chris Lee, CEO of En Masse Entertainment. “We feel the time has come to offer the same level of control in how they invest in the world of TERA, so we are offering a tiered approach that includes a compelling free option, to accessing the game.”
