Flower, Flow and Journey will be released on disc as Journey Collector’s Edition.
We have some great news for fans of the ambient, surreal games made by thatgamecompany. Official Playstation Magazine’s latest US issue has announced the details of the release of the Journey Collector’s Edition. This collection will include all three thatgamecompany titles in their first-ever release on disc. To sweeten the deal, the disc will also contain soundtracks for all three games (which feature some terrific music), some new mini games and an exclusive documentary.
The mini-games are surprising because they are the products of a company-wide 24-hour game jam, and they’re a little different from what you’d expect from thatgamecompany. Case in point, they’re called Nostril Shot, Duke War!! and Gravediggers. I can’t see Nostril Shot being very ambient.
To round it all out, the disc will come with Sony’s favorite new item to gift, a month of free Playstation Plus membership. This collection is a great chance for people who haven’t tried any games by thatgamecompany to see their visually appealing and innovative titles. Judging by the fact that Journey is the highest-selling PSN game in history, I’d say there are few PS3 owners who haven’t played it yet, though. However, the collection does offer fans of the series a physical copy of the game, something valued by traditionalists. I can’t picture anyone trying to get someone from thatgamecompany to sign their hard-drive.
As of now, the collection is restricted to the US, where it will be released for 30 USD. The UK release is still pending, so you might have to nag a Yank friend to get it if you’re across the Atlantic. We expect to hear more soon and we’ll keep you posted.
