I played The Secret World at Pax East earlier in the year and while it looked it great, I felt the game was a tad boring. I was, however, amazed with the atmosphere and how the fog would settle in onto the ground while your character explored the world. The noises were quite ominous and would change once coming near an enemy. Since then, Funcom has been working their butts off fixing any issues and trying to make some things better.
Today, Funcom is happy to announce that The Secret World is available worldwide. What some are saying is one of the smoothest launches in MMO history actually was released this past Friday to gamers who had an early pass to the game. With those early passes comes early reviews. Luckily for Funcom, this MMO is waking up to glowing reviews from across major websites. The press release emailed out earlier this morning states, “Hyper Magazine has given the game a 9/10 score, saying “… this could be the most important MMO since ‘World of Warcraft’”. NowGamer awarded the game a 8.3 out of 10 score, praising the game’s excellent graphics saying the “… DirectX 11 visuals challenge the limits of what we’d credit an MMO as capable of achieving.” Other reviews hitting today include 5/6 from both VG and Dagbladet, two of the biggest mainstream newspapers in Scandinavia, as well as a 9/10 from PC Powerplay. Looking at the incredible number of comments on forums and social media channels, feedback from players has also been overwhelmingly positive so far. The game is receiving praise for breaking new grounds for the MMO genre, combining technical and gameplay innovation with superior high quality production values.”
And to commemorate the release, Funcom has released a video for the game.
If I had a better computer then I wouldn’t mind giving this game a shot. But the question rises; Is this game able to deter fans of Tera away to give The Secret World a shot?
