The Walking Dead Episode 2: Starved for Help Review (PS3)
Posted on July 3, 2012 AT 07:38pm
Telltale has released the second episode for The Walking Dead and all I can say is bravo. I wasn’t sure how well an episodic game like this would flow but they have done a fantastic job of stitching the episodes together.
In The Walking Dead Episode 2: Starved for Help, you once again meet up with Lee and his ragtag group of survivors. They have fortified the motel and have remained relatively safe except for one thing…they are out of food. Now they must figure out a way to feed themselves and yet keep safe, the only question is how.
I am going to stop there because trying to give an apt description of the plot will just give everything away. Seriously, this episode is one important decision after another. In fact, I am planning on replaying this immediately just to see if I can get the story to shift significantly by making a different choice.
The gorgeous graphic novel-esque animation is still there and the voice acting is still spot on. The story is just as captivating as the first episode and you will find yourself questioning everything you are saying and doing. In my opinion, the game follows a story that is more like the comics and not so much the television show. The biggest twist? The second episode has seriously made me regret decisions I have made in the first episode. Telltale said from the beginning that everything you do or say will effect the story further down the line but for me the biggest shock was how significantly it affected it. I found myself cringing at things the other characters were saying to me just because of things I had decided in episode one. I am determined not to go back and change anything, to go ahead and let this story line play itself out, for now.
The choices that will be presented to you, the player, will be tough ones. Much tougher than the first episode. This one is all about survival, pure and simple. You will be forced to decide to do things you might not want to do but when it’s a choice between a rock and a hard place, what do you do?
Telltale is staying strong with this game and I am eager to play episode 3. I didn’t come across any bugs like I did in episode 1, so that was a welcome relief. If you haven’t downloaded The Walking Dead yet, do it. You will not regret it. If you missed my review of The Walking Dead Episode 1: A New Day, you can check it out here.
Summary:
The Good: Fantastic story, Gorgeous graphics, Solid voice acting
The Bad: Episode 2 felt a little short
The Ugly: Can’t think of a thing
Score: 9/10
