Third Eye Crime – Stealth Meets Puzzle

Posted on April 9, 2013 AT 11:39am

I had the good fortune to check out Third Eye Crime is a top-down, the stealth puzzle game from Moonshot Games and was featured at the PAX East 2013 Indie Showcase. At first glance, the game seemed simple enough; make your way through a room without alerting police. However, as you progress through, things get far more complicated…in a good way.

Third Eye Crime gives the impression of a “film noir” style, animated comic. The art style is classic and yet unique. As a huge fan of older noir films, this was definitely eye candy for me. The story revolves around you, an art thief. You have an extraordinary ability to read minds thus allowing you to “see” where people/items are in a given room and to what path they intend to travel within that room. Those NPCs are out to get you and you must navigate through the room (maze) and escape.

The controls are simple; use your finger to guide your character through the maze. Avoid the police, or any obstacles, and escape through the door. The first few rooms were easy and give the player the breathing room to get familiar with the controls. As you progress, more obstacles are added like security cameras and turrets. However, just to be fair, you are also given extra items to aid you in escaping, for example, a decoy dummy or noise maker. All the while, you are trying to pick up bonus treasures that are laying around.

The game can be played in 2-5 minute chunks and since the controls are easy to use, this is an easy game to pick up play but hard to put down. Seriously though, I spent a large chunk of time playing this before I noticed how long I had actually been playing. It appealed to my competitive side and at one point, I made it through the room with one bar of life left…with much cheering from Christian and Damien of Moonshot Games.

Third Eye Crime will be coming to iPad in June and then to iPhone and Android in the future.
