Tritton Kunai [Headset] Review

Posted on October 30, 2012 AT 11:24am

Tritton has made a name for itself by creating quality headsets for gamers the complement their chosen console perfectly. The Kunai is an entry level headset that offers a solid option for owners of a PlayStation 3 or Vita, but it does come with some drawbacks.

The Kunai headset comes in Black, Red, and White and features a removable microphone.  The 3 foot cable offers the perfect amount of slack for Vita use without much excess.  To attach the headset to a PS3, Tritton has included an extension cable that features in line volume and microphone controls as well as USB and analog RCA audio connections.

Here is where I found my most glaring frustration with the Kunai headset.  My PlayStation 3 is connected to my television through HDMI, so I had to modify my entertainment center setup to use the Kunai.  For me this meant using the audio outputs from my television to feed my headset. This setup also meant that I was now left with an extremely long audio cable running across my otherwise barren living room.

The audio quality of the Kunai headset was very good on both the PS3 and Vita.  Game sounds came through loud and clear with a good balance of bass and treble. The detachable mic did a good job of picking up my voice without picking up any ambient noise as well.  While the padded headband offered a good amount of adjustment I did find the earcups to a bit on the small side.  This caused my extended gaming sessions to be a bit uncomfortable, but this should not affect most gamers as my ears are relatively large.

Overall, the Kunai headset from Tritton offers a solid entry level headset for gamers who have invested in the Vita. Gamers who have a PS3 and are willing to modify their entertainment gaming setup accommodate the Kunai headset will find plenty to like as well. I personally will not use the Kunai very much with my PS3, but it will definitely be put through its paces with my Vita well into the future.  The Kunai headset retails for $59.99 and is available directly from Tritton at www.trittonaudio.com/

  • The Good: Good audio quality for the price point
  • The Bad: Small Earcups may not fit all users
  • The Ugly: Rewiring my entertainment center to use the Kunai with my PS3

Score: 7.0
