If you’re looking for a headset that supports online chat on the Wii U, or just an overall great stereo headset, the Tritton Kunai Stereo Headset for the Nintendo Wii U & 3DS might be the product you are looking for. This headset is an official Nintendo licensed product, has all the intangibles you need, and it comes at a fairly reasonable price that won’t break your wallet. Best of all, for the price, the headset sounds fantastic.
One of the first things that I noticed and liked about the Kunai Stereo Headset is the detachable microphone. This is, without a doubt, the best feature of this headset because if you aren’t engaged in a chat session, the microphone can be detached and the headset can simply be used as regular headphones. Another benefit with the microphone is its flexibility. It can easily be adjusted to face your mouth for speaking and when not speaking, it can be flexed back to an away position. I found this feature really handy and beneficial.
The headset includes an in-line audio controller that can also be used to adjust the volume on the headset as well as mute the microphone. This is a standard feature on all headsets and is a welcome feature on the Kunai Stereo Headset as well.
The sound on the Kunai Stereo Headset is phenomenal. I was very surprised to find the acoustics very impressive for this headset. There was no sound distortion upon cranking up the volume to a full tilt either. The headphones feel comfortable around your ears as well. The rubber padding around the ears helps to muff outside sound very well and gives it a nice unified look while presenting a comfortable feel to the consumer. Your ears won’t be sore when you take these headphones off like others in the market today.
The Tritton Kunai Stereo Headset does come with just one very small minor flaw, however – the packaging. Upon attempting to open the headset, I had a very hard time getting the headset out of the packaging. Once out of the box, the headset has some kind of plastic lock around one of the ear pieces which completely locks and binds it to the packaging. It took me a second to figure out how to remove the plastic lock from the ear piece to free the headset. Some people may find this frustrating coming out of the box if they just want to rip the package open to get to their headset since it’s bound very well to its packaging.
Summary: Overall, though, I must say that the Tritton Kunai Stereo Headset is a great headset. It has the intangibles of being a headset or headphones, by just detaching the microphone. Aside from the in-line controller, the headset doesn’t have any kind of special features, but where it lacks in features, it makes up for in sound. The sound quality is outstanding and the headset feels great around your ears. If you’re looking for a really nice headset for the 3DS or Wii U, you really can’t beat this one, especially for the price.. The Tritton Kunai Stereo Headset is available now from Tritton Audio for an MSRP of $49.99.
- The Good: The audio sounds fantastic, and the detachable microphone is an added plus.
- The Bad: There aren’t any major breakthrough features on this headset that make it stand out from anything else.
- The Ugly: The packaging can be frustrating if you don’t have the patience and just want to rip into your new headset.
