Epic Games has announced that their July release of the Unreal Engine 3 will come bundled with the Perforce Software Version Management system. This multitasking control-ware is designed to allow up to 20 users at 20 workstations to manage versions seamlessly. That’s right, all you developers out there who have had headaches and pains using the sub-level system through file sharing sites like Dropbox, cry no more! Perforce’s addition to the release, for free, will solve all your small scoped development needs. Below you can see Randy DeFauw, technical marketing manager of Perforce, and Jay Wilbur, VP of Epic Games speaking about their impressions of the collaboration.
“Teaming up with the game industry’s cutting-edge and highly powerful Unreal Engine technology is a natural fit for Perforce,” said Randy DeFauw, technical marketing manager of Perforce Software. “Epic understands the value of leveraging a rock solid version management system that appeals to developers of all disciplines. We’re pleased to share the benefits of Perforce with development teams worldwide through their latest release of the engine.”
“Shipping a tighter Perforce integration with Unreal Engine 3 along with free access to Perforce via UDK demonstrates how Epic is always working to put more power into the hands of game developers everywhere,” said Jay Wilbur, vice president of Epic. “We are committed to providing the very best game engine technology at all times.”
UDK is known as the world’s leading development engine in both graphical performance and stability. This boon to the development industry will certainly not go un-celebrated, as larger more complex projects just became easier for smaller and indie companies. Be prepared, I am sure this new development will get us seeing a lot more Unreal powered mobile games!
