On Friday, AMC and Rock You announced Friday the launch of The Walking Dead Social Game. It’s a story-driven Facebook action game based in the world of The Walking Dead. You get to create your own survivor and play through a story line that intertwines with that of the TV series. Don’t be fooled though, we’re not talking ‘Farmville meets zombies’, here. It’s a strategy/survival-horror style game that allows you traverse locales from the series to survive, kill zombies, and recruit your friends to defend your camp.

“Gamers are ready for a more robust gameplay experience on Facebook,” said Josh Grant, svp and GM of Studio Partners at Rock You. “We’re bringing a thrilling survival-horror game experience to a more social platform that both long-time gamers and fans new to the gaming space can enjoy.”

So far, the game looks pretty solid. I’ve had a bit of hands on time with it, and for a social game, it’s pretty deep when it comes to stats. You have the usual ‘timed energy’ trappings, as most social games do. Outside of that, it’s certainly worth a look if you’re a fan of the series. It’s in public beta at the moment, so there are bound to be some bugs and there’s also no sound at this time. I’m sure it’ll all come together soon enough!
