The general perception of melee combat is that its kinda crap, and rightfully so. Very few studios have managed to recreate the feel of being locked in combat with a sword and shield, a pike, or a bow and arrow and that has disenfranchised many with the concept of first person medieval combat. Torn Banner Studios hopes to change that perception with their upcoming medieval warfare game, Chivalry. So what is Chivalry? Well the lead designer of Torn Banner plans to explain to all of in their latest developer diary which you can see below.
I’m really curious about this game, its an era in history that we don’t see as much now and with a style of gameplay that I don’t belief it has ever been done in before. However, Chivalry has quite a ways to go if they want to make this title a success; the combat needs to feel visceral and heavy enough to make smashing an opponents face in with a mace rewarding but at the same time give a tactical feel to the overall warfare aspect. Either way, you will probably find me suiting up and taking a stab at the title when it comes out this fall;.
