Wii U Gets Two Sports Games (and Neither of them are Wii Sports)

Posted on November 19, 2012 AT 07:31am

Two of the biggest gaming sports franchises have already arrived on the Wii U. EA just launched both Madden NFL 13 and FIFA Soccer 13 yesterday in North America, and both games will be making use of the unique gamepad.

In Madden, players will be able to use the touchscreen to call plays and manage their team. You’ll even be able to trace out hot routes right before the play. And if someone wants to use the TV while you’re coaching your team to victory, you can play the entire game right on the gamepad, no TV required.

FIFA also makes use of the gamepad by allowing you to shake the gamepad to activate the shooting zone. From there, you can touch a spot on the goal, and the player will take the shot. The same technique applies for free kicks and penalties as well.

Both games also add new game modes. Madden adds the Connected Careers mode, where you can play through a career as an entirely new player or an all-time favorite. FIFA adds the ability to play as a manager in any of the game modes and make real-time calls with the gamepad. With all these new features, it might be worth grabbing these titles for Wii U even if you already have them on another console. After all, what other games let you draw your own hot routes on the fly?
