Earlier today, the award-videogame developer and publisher Wargaming.net announced that the closed beta for their upcoming flight combat MMO will take off on May 31. Building off the success of their popular World of Tanks MMO, World of Warplanes aims to bring the fight to the skies in the second part of their planned trilogy.
Set in the Golden Age of military aviation, World of Warplanes will allow players to build full-scale careers as virtual pilots, offering machines from the 1930′s biplanes to the Korean War jet fighters that led the way to modern air forces. Virtual pilots will choose from three main warplane classes; single-engine light fighters capable of engaging enemies in close dogfights, heavy fighters with their deadly straight attacks, and strafing aircrafts which are a fearsome threat to ground targets. As this is a Wargaming.net game, you have access to a good amount of customization for your warplane, various ammo types, engines, and crucial modules will allow player to pick the best way to dominate the skies.
World of Warplanes launched its alpha on February 23 and has secured more than 600,000 invite requests so far. Upon its beta release those numbers are expected to surge and the army of test pilots will be increased dramatically.
“We are happy to announce the next big day for World of Warplanes,” said Alex Zezulin, Project Manager for World of Warplanes. “Thanks to our alpha testers, the game looks better and better every day, and we hope beta test participants will contribute as much to World of Warplanes development.”
You can only sign up for the alpha of the game at the moment; however anyone who signs up now and does not receive an invitation will be given priority when the beta is released on the 31st.
