Xbox LIVE Declares Their Support For Gaymercon
Posted on August 30, 2012 AT 08:53pm
By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about GaymerCon. If not, let me sum it up using the official description: ‘GaymerCon is the first gaming and tech convention with a focus on LGBT geek culture.’
Personally, I think the idea sounds wonderful. Not only does it give LGBT gamers a place to chill together, it’s likely to be one of the least painful to experience, socially. The gay community seems to understand better than most how important it is to understand one another. But I’ve stepped up on my soapbox. Allow me to step back down and show you something pretty cool.
The folks from GaymerCon have been getting some pretty big names to step up and proclaim their support. Yesterday, they showed that even Xbox LIVE supports it, as well as having members of said ‘Gaymer’ community within their ranks.
It’s great to see XBL showing that not only do they love the concept, but that they’re not afraid to show they’re both part of the community and willing to support it. If only all sub-groups of gamers were this accepting of others… That means everyone would have to stick to trash talking just their friends instead of anonymous strangers. Aww.
The Kickstarter for GaymerCon is still open for 24 more hours, so there’s still time to drop a few bucks on the cause! Their project has already met their $25,000 goal. They’ve got nearly $80k with a stretch goal of a cool $100k. If they can hit that, they’re pulling all the stops and also planning to make a ‘GaymerConnect’ web/mobile app ‘[t]hat you can easily go in and find other Gaymers to play your favorite games with’.
Overall, GaymerCon looks like community-building at its finest. Gayest, but finest nonetheless.
