BOSTON FIG 2012 | Going Old-School Stealthy in “Ninja Jim”

Many games these days capture the vibe of those classic NES titles from days of lore, and Ninja Jim definitely gives you that proper feel.

Created by Giant Evil Robot Ninja Jim has players in feudal Japan as you sneak through rooms past guards and other samurai. Using classic stealth tactics, Ninja Jim jumps, climbs, and hides in the darkness of other rooms as he finds his way from Point A to Point B without gaining too much attention from others. If you sneak up on another samurai at the right time, though, you can whip out your sword and cut him down to size.

Going hands-on with the game there was much to like about its style. Looking closer to first-year NES games its simple look helps to hide the quite complex style of gameplay. Many times I found my hands playing Twister with one another as I had to run, jump, and climb through the level. I admit that my hands were very sore after playing Ninja Jim, so I hope that when this game comes out there will be an option to plug in a controller into your PC to play it.

While there is no official release date yet for Ninja Jim the folks over at Giant Evil Robot are looking to get it out to everyone during the first half of 2013. Here’s hoping that the path of Ninja Jim is painted in the color of blood-stained gold.
