BOSTON FIG 2013 | The Undead Take Charge In “World Zombination”

Posted on September 20, 2013 AT 12:00pm

There are a lot of zombies games these days, and when I say “a lot” I mean A LOT! Because of this it’s hard to be unique in the genre, as the undead have taken over just about every form of video game known to man. Fortunately the folks at Proletariat knew this and decided to try to fit zombies into a realm they haven’t seen much success in: the strategy genre. Their game World Zombination, due in 2014, seems to be a great step in the right direction.

World Zombination has you take control of either survivors or zombies in a battle of city dominance. When given the chance to play I took the liberty of controlling the zombies, with the objective being to destroy the hospitals and eat the survivors inside. In some instances I was given the chance to unleash special versions of the undead, such as runners, spitters, converters, and basically giant zombies who can take down barricades. During this time opposition appeared in the form of gunners, who would take down my horde with the infinite amount of ammunition they had in possession.

The gameplay was fairly easy to handle, as taking over the city (Boston, ironically) had little-to-no real interferences. That said this was the first level, after all, so I can expect a huge jump in the challenge department the more I dive into it. Its touchscreen controls responded well to my commands, as my zombies marched through the town at my beckon call.

Currently the game’s official release date has yet to be announced, but those interested in World Zombination can sign up for the beta and gain early access to it when it’s ready. With a nice assortment of undead soldiers you’ll have at your disposal you can bet that there will be many fun and exciting moments in the game’s final release (and that’s not even covering when you take control of the survivors, which sadly I did not have a chance to do).

World Zombination comes out next year for iOS, Android, Mac, and PC.
