E3 2014 | Tom Clancy’s The Division

Posted on June 11, 2014 AT 09:19am

Take Back New York

There are very few Tom Clancy games that aren’t enjoyable. Historically, each game offers the player a unique role in the story being told, and the story being told is captivating. The Division is no different.

Coming out on 2015 from Ubisoft, The Division has the player acting as part of a team of highly-skilled tactical agents trained to work in small groups (or by themselves) in times of great crisis. In the game NYC has fallen victim to a deadly virus. It wiped out all support services so there are no police to call and no working phones with which to call them. It is the agents job to help restore security to the city and boost the morale of her surviving citizens.

Character customizations are a key part in this new game, and each upgrade and item equip the player utilizes impacts their game. Balancing the player’s style of play with the needs of their team in order to win may be one of the more tricky aspects of the game to master. Additionally, The Division features second-screen play in the form of a tablet app players can use to join their friend’s in-game in real-time with complete view of the battlefield and support them either by attacking the opposition or identifying key targets to attack.

Did I mention that The Division is an open world game? Because it is. Everything from time of day to the weather changes and can affect the player’s game. The environment is interactive and can be tactically used to ambush or trap enemies.

I go hands-on with The Division at E3, so stay locked for that review dropping soon. The game will ship in 2015 and will be available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
