“Outlast” Scares Up PC On September 4th

The scariest game I played at PAX East this past year was Red Barrels’ Outlast, a survival horror game that has you roaming through Mount Massive Asylum looking for clues to a murder while trying to escape the horrors that still lurk in the abandoned building. Good news (or bad news if you hate scary things): the game is coming sooner than you think.

Red Barrels today announced that Outlast will be launching on Steam on September 4th for $19.99. This past E3 the game won many awards and accolades, including the honor of “Most Likely to Make you Faint.” Red Barrels also revealed a bit more about the game’s back story:

In the remote mountains of Colorado, horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long-abandoned home for the mentally ill, recently re-opened by the “research and charity” branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation, has been operating in strict secrecy…until now.

Acting on a tip from an inside source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility and what he discovers walks a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something else entirely. Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive.

Outlast will also be available on the PS4, though no firm date has been announced for it yet. Until then I’m going to buy some shares in Depends. With the amount of people who will have the crap literally scared out of them at almost every corner of this game there’s no doubt their stock is gonna sky-rocket!
