It’s been a while, but I’m back. As I write this article, the countdown clock staring me in the face anxiously reminds me that only a mere 14 hours remain until it begins. The loud, crazy, unbelievably fun-filled gaming expo that is PAX East!
This year the show floor feels balanced. There are even more indie titles and developers exhibiting this year than the last two PAX East events I’ve covered, while the big guys (“AAA” titles and franchises) also seem to be rolling deep this year as compared to years past – a prime example being the first appearance of Sony Entertainment on the show floor. Sony plans to swing for the fences letting the public get some serious hands-on time with The Last of Us in addition to a few other games, Bethesda is going for the “wow” with more Elder Scrolls:Online and Dishonored announcements, Volition reminded us all just a few days ago that not only is the Saints Row franchise not dead, it’s going supernova! And those are just the first 3 appointments I have booked on Friday morning.
Video game royalty Cliff Bleszenski is kicking off the show with what could only be described as Epic Storytelling Time (the keynote speech), Jonathan Coulton, MC Frontalot, Paul & Storm, The Protomen, Sam Hart, and the VGO (Video Game Orchestra) will be holding down the nightly entertainment – outside of all the off-site and outlandish parties that will fill up the Waterfront and downtown Boston area through Sunday night.
PAX East 2013 has so much to offer this year, and I’m looking forward to diving right in. The ESH team will be bringing you coverage all three days, including interviews, hands-on first looks, and a live podcast roundtable Sunday morning with some of our favorite video game journalists running down our key takeaways and show-stopping surprises that you need to know about. So stay tuned, this weekend is going to be total AWESOMESAUCE.
