Star Wars: The Old Republic Goes F2P This Week
Posted on November 11, 2012 AT 10:46am
Electronic Arts has been prepping for this for months and it’s almost that time. SWTOR will go free to play on November 15, a move that EA is hoping will renew waning interest in the MMO.
Current subscribers will receive 250 free Cartel Coins as well as coins for the number of months they paid for on their account. Prior subscribers that reactivate their account before the December 20 deadline will get coins for all of the months they had paid for up to the F2P launch.
Damien Schubert, Bioware’s Lead Designer said that free to play players will still be able to progress to level 50 and access most of the main story and side quest, but they will gain experience points and a slower rate than paid players and some aspects of their gameplay will be “limited”.

Bioware also talked about their upcoming 1.5 content update which will feature the HK-51 Assassination droid and Nightmare, which will no doubt cost for those those that opt for the free-to-play route.
