THQ’s Planned Saints Row: The Third DLC Births Future Saints Row Game?

Posted on June 21, 2012 AT 06:46am

Just like in The Karate Kid movies, once the student surpasses the master the training is over. Under that philosophy, when DLC surpasses the quality level set for it then it should become apart of a whole new game. It’s a stretch- but follow the logic for a moment. THQ obviously liked this philosophy since that is what’s happening to “Enter the Dominatrix”.

THQ and Volition, Inc. yesterday announced development of the standalone expansion Saints Row: The Third – Enter the Dominatrix will now be incorporated into production of the next great sequel in the Saints Row franchise, tentatively titled “The Next Great Sequel in the Saints Row Franchise.” Way to rope us in with that awesome title fellas!

THQ President, Jason Rubin was floored by what was going on with partner-in-crime Volition, Inc:

When I looked at the Enter The Dominatrix expansion in production at Volition, I was blown away by the ideas and desire to expand the fiction of the franchise. I asked the team what it could achieve given more time, more resources, and a broader scope for the project. We all agreed we wanted to play that game. When it comes to Saints Row, it’s clear our fans want bigger, better, and even more over the top.

Shifts in the a production of -this size- doesn’t come without consequences. THQ anticipates net sale losses for 2013. However when you believe as Rubin does that “the potential for this sequel is far greater as a full-priced, full-length, high quality, connected experience” you have to take the risk. High risk can lead to high rewards. It is a gamble most of us have experienced in one way or another. Now it’s THQ turn.

Someone cue up the song “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. THQ and Volition deserve a montage leading up to the debut of  ”The Next Great Sequel in the Saints Row Franchise.”
