The Doctor Is In

BBC Home Video have announced that DVDs of two classic runs of Doctor Who will be released on July 10.

For fans of the second Doc, Patrick Troughton, Doctor Who: The Krotons has him removing the titular aliens from their positions of power on a planet, only to realize that he’s just made the situation worse. Besides digitally remastered versions of the episodes, the disc will also include (but is not limited to) such extras as a making-of featurette, a second featurette called Doctor Who Stories – Frazer Hines (part one), and commentary with actors Philip Madoc, Richard Ireson, and Gilbert Wynn, AFM David Tilley, make-up designer Sylvia James, costume designer Bobi Bartlett and special sounds designer Brian Hodgson.

As for fans of Doctor #3, John Pertwee, for them the BBC has Doctor Who: Death To The Daleks, which has the Doc and Sarah Jane stranded on a planet with an Earth expedition, only to find that they’re not alone. Again, the episodes have been digitally remastered for good sound and picture, and will include such extras as two featurettes on the episodes and the titular bad guys, as well as a commentary with actor Julian Fox, Dalek operator Cy Town, director Michael E. Briant, AFM Peter Leyland, costume designer L. Rowland Warne, and special sounds maestro Dick Mills.

Both discs will retail for $24.98 each.
