Amoeba Records

Criterion have announced that they’ll release a special edition Blu-ray of the classic 1958 monster movie The Blob on March 12.

The movie stars Steve McQueen as a teenager in a small town that’s visited by the titular amoeba-like alien. It also features a song by Burt Bacharach, and is considered the film that launched his and McQueen’s respective careers. Plus it’s about a space amoeba…eating people.

Along with the movie — which has been given a new, high-definition digital restoration — this collection also includes the original trailer, a commentary by director Irvin S. Yeaworth, Jr. and actor Robert Fields, a second commentary by producer Jack H. Harris and film historian Bruce Eder, and “Blobabilia!,” a gallery that includes on-set photographs, original posters, and props, including the original Blob.

The disc will retail for $39.95.
