Spy harder

Acorn Media has announced that the BBC miniseries adaptations of John Le Carré’s classic spy novels “Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy” and its sequel “Smiley’s People” will be released on DVD on October 25.

Being issued to coincide with the new “Tinker” movie — which stars Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, and John Hurt, and will be in theaters December 9 — the “Tinker” miniseries originally aired on the BBC and American TV in 1979, while it’s sequel aired three years later. Both starred Sir Alec Guinness as MI6 agent George Smiley and Patrick Stewart as his nemesis Karla.

Both collections also include interviews with Le Carré, a biography of the writer, a bibliography of his work, production notes, a glossary of spy terms, and cast filmographies.

Both three-disc sets will retail for $49.99 each.
