Warner Home Video has announced that two classic movies—1939’s The Wizard of Oz and 1953’s House of Wax—are being celebrated with individual 3D Blu-rays on October 1.
For fans of L. Frank Baum’s fantasy tale, The Wizard of Oz: 75th Anniversary Collector’s Edition will feature a new 3D edition of the classic film as well as a new documentary called “The Making of ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’,” a collection of three enamel pins, a map of Oz, a 48-page hardcover book, a journal, a Sparkle Ruby Slippers Globe, and other extras. It will retail for $105.43.
There will also, that day, be a DVD/BD combo pack ($35.99), as well as a Blu-ray ($19.98) and DVD ($16.95) editions, which will include the new documentary and the other extras from the Collector’s Edition.
The 3D version of the film will also be shown in IMAX theaters for one week starting September 20.
October 1 also sees the release of a 60th anniversary edition Blu-ray of the 3D horror classic House of Wax. Besides both the original 3D edition and a 2D version, the collection will also include the original trailer, commentary, a new featurette on the film, a making-of featurette, and a feature from 1933 called “Mystery of the Wax Museum.” It will retail for $35.99.
