Health and Fitness Gaming Website Launches Indiegogo Fundraiser Campaign to Support Free Dance Fitness Gaming Event for Kids

BRONX, NY— June 3, 2013 – Gamer Fitnation (www.gamerfitnation.com), the world’s only video game web site dedicated to health and fitness, will host the second annual Dancetopia, a free dance video gaming event for kids that helps to promote increased fitness and healthier living through popular dance games. Dancetopia 2013 will be held this summer in New York City.

To help produce Dancetopia 2013, Gamer Fitnation has launched an Indiegogo fundraising campaign, calling on fellow gamers to support the free event and teach youth the importance of a fit and healthy lifestyle by finding new and fun ways to exercise. GF is looking to help raise $7,500 during the duration of the campaign, donations from the campaign will be used to fully fund Dancetopia 2013. For more information about Dancetopia 2013 or to support the event on Indiegogo, please visit the official fundraiser page at igg.me/at/GFN-Dancetopia2013.

“Our mission is to bring the community and gaming industry together to help promote the benefits of having fun and staying fit for kids and teens, while exploring the exercise benefits of today’s dance video games,” the Gamer Fitnation team said. “We see this as a fun way to remind young gamers that leveling up their own health and fitness are just as important as unlocking their in-game upgrades and armor.”

ABOUT DANCETOPIA

Dancetopia is a free annual dance video gaming event for kids hosted by the Gamer Fitnation staff to promote fitness through gaming. This event utilizes the latest dance games to promote a fun way to get fit. Last summer, Gamer Fitnation launched their first annual Dancetopia at Harlem’s Twenty First Century Academy. More than 300 children and their families attended and had a great time dancing and learning about health and fitness.

Currently, many children around the nation are not as active as they should be, and many stay home playing video games. At the same time, many children are eating unhealthy diets. These are all contributing factors to the country’s growing childhood obesity problem because kids are not effectively balancing their diets with daily exercise. Dancetopia looks to leverage the popularity of gaming to help increase fitness in children. By combining the best in dance gaming with lessons in healthy eating, Dancetopia helps lead the children of New York City into healthier and happier lifestyles.

“Video games get a bad rap for contributing to the less active lifestyle of children today because games have replaced going outside to have fun for many of today’s youth,” said Antwand Pearman, founder of Gamer Fitnation. “Dancetopia looks to help reverse not only the disturbing trend of childhood obesity, but also the reputation of video games as a wholly negative influence on children’s exercise. We are educating our community on fun and different ways to get fit through video games, and we hope gamers will join us to help fully fund this free health awareness event for the children of New York City.”
