Geoff Keighley announces four-month-long Summer Game Fest

If you were worried this summer would feel a bit devoid of gaming news due to the cancellation of major events like E3 and San Diego Comic-Con, fear not. Geoff Keighley, who’s previously organized the E3 Coliseum, Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, and The Game Awards, has announced an online event called Summer Game Fest that will see major reveals, in-game events, and playable demos throughout the next four months.

The exact contours of the event are still a little fuzzy, but Keighley has lined up some of the industry’s heavy hitters as partners. The list for a so-called “Phase 1” features 2K, Activision, Bandai Namco, Bethesda, Blizzard, Bungie, CD Projekt Red, Digital Extremes, EA, PlayStation, Private Division, Riot Games, Square Enix, Steam, Warner Bros., and Xbox. Notably, Nintendo has yet to commit.

Keighley followed up with a tweet sharing a bit more detail, promising “amazing events,” “fun surprises,” and “a developer showcase with… iam8bit,” the one-time E3 partner who’d dropped out before the expo was eventually canceled. He also noted that the Opening Night Live event at Gamescom (which is going all-digital this year) will serve as a “season finale” for the online festival.

A trailer released alongside the announcement includes clips of major games like Halo Infinite, Psychonauts 2, Marvel’s Avengers, Ghost of Tsushima, and more.

You can now sign up on the official Summer Game Fest site to be notified when the schedule goes live.
