THE BUZZ: While the rest of the casual world eats up every new entry into the Call of Duty franchise, some cries from the hardcore side have been asking for something different for sometime now. The Call of Duty formula hasn’t evolved much since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and one user has taken it upon himself to pitch a new direction to Activision for their legendary franchise.
Call of Duty Police Warfare puts heroes in the boots of LA’s SWAT team, and villains in the cargo pants of bank robbers. And while this is by no means a real product, the attention to detail suggest that a lot of thought went into how this entry into the series will play out. Drivable vehicles, and base jumping mechanics show a lot of potential and creating this as a PSN and XBLA product makes sense.
EGM’s TAKE: The cheesy voiceover points out that the game was inspired by real-life events and some of hollywood’s most famous shootouts, and that prospect alone is very exciting. Who are we kidding, the moment this video went public all hope to actually get this thing made were destroyed. The game shows plenty of potential in its setting and tone, and more than a passing resemblance to Valve’s Counter-Strike series. Not that we’re complaining.
