Need for Speed

THE BUZZ: EA is heading to Hollywood to create a Need for Speed movie.

EA wants writers George and John Gatins to adapt the racing game IP into a film. Their most recent work is Real Steel, featuring Hugh Jackman.

Warner Bros., Sony and Paramount are all interested in taking the IP on.

EGM’s TAKE: Personally, we don’t feel that there is any need for a Need for Speed movie, we already have The Fast and The Furious, which is basically the same thing. If it does make it to production you can expect average box office numbers based off the IP alone. To do better the film will have to offer something really new. Otherwise it migh not flop, but it won’t be a hit either.
