Jet Set Radio Returns With Its Original Soundtrack Intact

Posted on June 1, 2012 AT 02:13pm

Sometimes, one of the tricky things about re-releases of classic games is licensing—music and advertisements in something from years ago may violate certain copyright laws. Luckily, Sega is rising above that hurdle with Jet Set Radio.

As announced on the company’s official blog, all of the original worldwide tracks from the Dreamcast release of Jet Set Radio will make it over to the PSN, XBLA, and PC version. That means (almost) every beat from each region is getting packed into the downloadable release, including the Japanese and European-exclusive music.

For the super-accurate, there are two tracks missing, as explained here:

“Presently both Yappy Feet and Many Styles are the two songs not listed in the tracklist. Sorry, we re-negotiated all of the contracts (quite a feat btw) for all of the songs and these two didn’t make it. If this changes, we would be just as happy as you would, trust us – we’re all super excited to have this list.”

But nonetheless, it’s a great show of hustle by Sega’s legal department to sign new contracts for the all the music. Take a listen as they do a well-deserved victory lap for nostalgia with some JSR footage:
