The latest trailer for Insomniac’s upcoming squad-based action-shooter Fuse establishes the villain as a character with a vision, not an agenda.

There’s much to enjoy about the latest trailer (embedded below). For one, it portrays the villain as a person—not some evil entity. Someone with goals and a plan collaborating with others whose mindset is simply incongruous to Overstrike 9’s. There’s also, of course, a decent amount of gameplay to glean. And then there’s the shot of a giant-sized Fable (Fuse’s villain).

It’s all quite over-the-top, but I think we need more of that from games and less carbon copy strides toward photorealism that attempt to be gritty while simultaneously still game-y.

Fuse is set to release on PS3 and Xbox 360 May 28 in North America, May 31 in Europe.
