A new video of Ubisoft’s Child of Light shows four full minutes of uninterrupted, JRPG-inspired, Ubi Art–powered gameplay.
In the video, lead programmer Brianna Code (whose last name strikes me as wildly appropriate for her line of work, and whose previous projects include Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed III, and before that Company of Heroes while at Relic Entertainment) describes some of Child of Light’s gameplay mechanics and features, including how the second player, who controls the floating orb of light Igniculus, can blind enemies to avoid combat if desired and can scribble “light messages” to leave for friends online, offering hints about, say, hidden treasure locations.
The video also offers a look at the game’s ATB-inspired battle system. Once again, a second player controlling Igniculus can offer assistance by slowing down enemies or healing allies. And like any good JRPG, skill points earned by success in battle can be employed to characters’ sizable skill trees.
Child of Light is slated for release on Windows PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U sometime 2014.
