Talking to IGN, director Mateusz Kanik and creative director Sebastian Stepien touched upon Cyberpunk 2077’s atmosphere and how it won’t be as bleak as other, iconic examples of cyberpunk.

“The style and mood and atmosphere of this world, what you do at the bar, what do you drink, how you react with other people, what dialogue you choose—all these things let us keep the Cyberpunk atmosphere all the time,” Stepien told IGN.

“There are lots of cyber games around, but there’s not a lot of punk in those games,” said Mateusz. “We want to put more punk into ours. We do not want to make a dark and hopeless world. We are not doing Blade Runner. It will be full of rock and roll.”

“It’s more like a Tarantino approach,” added Sebastian.

Sounds interesting, I s’pose, and I guess it’s important to differentiate yourself from the obvious go-to aesthetic choices for cyberpunk. Part of me likes and practically demands the dark and gritty and hopeless world abandoned, but then again Remember Me strikes a balance between being bright and utopian in some sectors of Neo-Paris, while burnt out in others. So it can work.

Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled for a 2015 “or later” release on PC, PS4, and the next Xbox as well, undoubtedly.
