Blizzard has nerfed the Monk class in Diablo III as part of the game’s first round of hotfixes.

The developer is in the process of removing the Monk’s Mantra of Healing rune, Boon of Protection. The official change: “Amount of damage absorbed is now capped at the amount of healing provided by Mantra of Healing in the first 3 seconds after activation.”

Blizzard community manager Bashiok has recommend that players stop using the rune until it can be replaced with something else in a future patch. The decision was made, beacause the rune is simply too powerful.

“The Boon of Protection rune was approximately 10 times over its budget on the benefits it provided, and it was quite simply a mistake on our part to let the rune ship as it was. We don’t intend to take these quick and drastic measures often, but considering the severity of the issue, we felt it important to correct it swiftly,” he wrote on the Battle.net forums.

Players have also noticed changes to the Wizard and Demon Hunter classes. Blizzard has promised to release a full hotfix list later today. These changes were made in order to prevent players from easily getting through the game’s top difficulty level by avoiding one-shot enemy abilities.
